Delivering Reliable AdBlue Infrastructure for UK Fleets

As environmental regulations continue to tighten and Euro 6 compliance becomes standard across commercial vehicle fleets, the demand for reliable AdBlue infrastructure has never been greater. At OTS Group, we have been at the forefront of designing, manufacturing, and maintaining AdBlue and fuel storage systems that meet the evolving needs of HGV, PSV and LCV operators.

Built for compliance, performance and peace of mind, OTS delivers AdBlue infrastructure you can rely on.

We recently completed a full site refresh for one of the UK’s largest retail fleet operators. This major project involved decommissioning legacy infrastructure and installing modern, high-capacity fuel and AdBlue systems built for performance, compliance and ease of management.

At the heart of the installation was an 80,000-litre split-compartment storage tank, incorporating a dedicated 10,000-litre stainless steel AdBlue compartment. While lining carbon steel tanks with AdBlue-compatible liners is an acceptable industry practice, our recommendation, particularly for high-throughput or sensitive environments, is to use stainless steel. This approach offers enhanced corrosion resistance and long-term integrity for both the tank and ancillary fittings.

To that end, the AdBlue compartment for this project was fabricated entirely from stainless steel, including all manways, fittings and overfill prevention valves, ensuring maximum durability and chemical compatibility. The system was integrated with Veeder-Root gauging and a Jigsaw fuel management system, providing the customer with real-time visibility of fuel and AdBlue levels, automated replenishment, and complete traceability across driver and vehicle usage.

AdBlue Tank Maintenance: Best Practices for Fleet Operators
AdBlue is a sensitive fluid that requires careful handling to maintain its effectiveness and avoid contamination. At OTS Group, we advise our customers to implement a structured maintenance and inspection regime to ensure system longevity and compliance:

  • Regular Equipment Inspections: Visual checks should be conducted frequently to identify any leaks, corrosion, or mechanical wear in tanks, pipework and dispensing units.

  • Preventative Maintenance Services: OTS offers scheduled maintenance contracts that include tank cleaning, filter changes and diagnostics to pre-empt issues before they become disruptive.

  • Check for Crystallisation: AdBlue crystallises when exposed to air. Ensure all fittings are sealed and dispensing nozzles are cleaned routinely to avoid build-up.

  • Monitor Temperature and Storage Conditions: AdBlue should be stored between -11°C and +30°C. Extreme temperatures can degrade the product or damage the tank system.

  • Verify System Calibration: Ensure gauges and fuel management systems are regularly calibrated for accurate reporting and automated reordering.
